Well kiddies are back to school and maybe your starting to get overwhelmed with paperwork, sports schedules and just a lack of family communication! Why not create a family “command center”! Create it above an existing table, or on a blank wall in a mudroom or laundry room. You could even convert a small closet into your family’s center. If space is an issue, use a desk top filing system in your kitchen counter. Whatever system you use make sure there is a calendar, a pocket of file for each family member and plenty of pens/pencils nearby!
The 3rd and final post in this series focuses on interior décor!
Once again, we are using the same color palette You can choose vintage fabrics, or another type to once again bring forth the style of cottage you are trying to achieve. An inexpensive alternative to drapes are sheets!! They can be quickly sewn to accommodate the rod or folded and clipped onto rings and slid onto the rod. And again, if you were fortunate enough to inherit some vintage furniture that may not necessarily be what you like, consider using drop sheets to make your own slip covers. They can be removed easily and washed! Throw pillows can add a pop of color and style to your interior. Consider mixing vintage and new pieces!
This is part 2 of a 3 part blog and has even more interior and exterior diy ideas and tips to refresh and update your cottage!!
We are using the same color palette we used for the exterior and this post is all about PAINT and the wonders it can do for your interior project! Paint can completely transform a space from dark and dreary to bright and cheerful! Be sure to treat the wood or paneling properly before painting to ensure the paint lasts! Paint can also update the look of a fireplace, this is a technique by where the paint is watered down and applied to the stone and then blotted to give it different tones. The fireplace is still charmingly rustic, but the lighter color helps to lighten and brighten the space. Perhaps you were fortunate enough to inherit some vintage furniture with the cottage. These pieces can quickly be updated with a little spray paint or chalk paint! And a kitchen can be updated with a little bead board, a decorative corbel (vintage or brand new, both can work) and then of course, paint!
This 3 part blog is loaded with interior and exterior diy ideas and tips to refresh and update your cottage!! Part 1 focuses on updating/refreshing the exterior of your new-to-you abode! Sometimes a fresh coat of paint can go a long way….choose a neutral color palette for the exterior and you can carry it indoors also! New lighting is an inexpensive way to refresh the exterior of your cottage and creates the style of your cottage or the style you are trying to create! Adding shutters can add color to the exterior and make your windows look larger than they are! They can be customized to suit the style of your cottage.
